Having a quick call or video chat can make a huge difference. It gives you the chance to get to know the person behind the camera and see if your personalities work well together.


Don’t be afraid to ask questions beyond photography. Ask about their hobbies, interests, and what they enjoy outside of weddings. These conversations help you get a sense of who they are as a person.


Feeling comfortable with your photographer is incredibly important. If you feel awkward in front of the camera, that feeling can often show in your photos. When you genuinely get on with your photographer and feel relaxed around them, the photos will feel much more natural and authentic.

Every photographer works slightly differently, so it’s important to make sure your expectations align.

Your wedding photos are irreplaceable, which is why professional equipment and backup systems are so important.


Most professional wedding photographers will use high-end cameras and lenses, as well as cameras with dual card slots. Dual card slots mean every photo is written to two memory cards at the same time, providing an extra layer of security.


Many photographers will also bring backup cameras and lenses to every wedding, just in case.

6. Read Reviews and Testimonials


It may seem like an obvious point but reviews from previous couples can give you a great insight into what it’s like to work with a photographer.


Look for comments about how they handled the day, how they made couples feel and how smoothly everything ran. Testimonials often reveal the kind of experience you can expect on your own wedding day.

7. Remember the Value of Wedding Photography
